Guitarist for grunge band Soundgarden Kim Thayil recently said that the band are releasing a box set for the 25th anniversary of "Badmotorfinger" on November 18th, although the full details on that are still up in the air.
Thayil spoke to Loudwire about being involved in a handful of Soundgarden related activities, but didn't spill the beans on anything else. This sort of thing has been done before when the band released extras and B-sides in celebration of 1994's "Superunknown".
"Badmotorfinger was a landmark release for the band. Issued October 8, 1991 via A&M, the act;s third full-length release contains singles like 'Rusty Cage,' later covered by Johnny Cash, 'Outshined,' and the truly haunting 'Jesus Christ Pose.' In addition to having videos for those tracks thrown into constant rotation in the early '90s, the album led to touring with Guns N' Roses and a slot on the 1992 edition of Lollapalooza."
Additionally, he's said there's remixes and remastering being done to 1988's "Ultramega OK" for an upcoming re-release AND there's something in the works for Black Friday in November for Record Store Day.
If all this isn't enough, Thayil says the band are planning their follow up to 2012's "King Animal".
"Over the past year we've had a number of songwriting and jam sessions. Getting together to simply exchange ideas and document and record them. So we've had some rough demos of a dozen or so songs. We'll continue to do this as everyone's schedules open up. Hopefully next year we'll find ourselves in the studio fleshing out these ideas."
